Do You Have a Human Doing Your Seo Work

It is so important when you are getting information for your website that you are using human words and information. There are quite a few sites that will generate automatic content for your website, and load it within a few hours or a day. The problem with this is search engines notice, and will ban you from coming up in the search engine pages. using an seo that does a great job with human generated content will ensure that your website is safe and will continue to move up when it comes to your page ranking on any search engine.

I have bee working with my family for quite a few years now on getting a family photography business going. We have an amazing website, and a few loyal customers that are beginning to share their information about us with others. But we really need someone to help us get more people viewing our website. I need an seo to help create pages of content that will give us a good page ranking, and send people to our website. I am sure that once they get there, they will be impressed enough to want to use us based upon out pictures.

I ran into a problem a few months a go when I tried to move up when it came to my page ranking. I tried an automatic seo, and as a result, I was down graded instead of upgraded in my page ranking. Then, I went with another company that promised me amazing content that would not only be recognized by the search engines, but would help get my site first page ranking, which will get more people to my site. And the most important thing is to get people to my site so I can get more sales from those people.

The Doberman: A Modern Dog for Modern Times

Herr Louis Doberman of Thuringen, Germany, was the man who crossed the Rottweiler, the Pinscher and the Black and Tan Terrier to attempt to produce the “ideal” guarding dog. The original purposes of guarding and attacking the stranger who invaded the property was the premise on which the Doberman was developed. Those that chose to have a guard dog expected them to attack strangers. Fenced yards were respected and the Doberman or other protective dog was a part of a family in early Germany. In fact, guard dogs were highly prized and were expected to be intelligent, obedient and courageous.

The Schutzhund Trials, also formalized and standardized in Germany, was a way to test these characteristics. An important ingredient of the Schutzhund trials, however, is the Obedience component which requires a reliable response at all times to the commands of the dogs’ master.

The Doberman Pinscher was never intended to be ONLY a dog that would be a fierce guard dog, it was intended to be the “ideal” guard dog, a dog that is obedient, faithful and protective when necessary. A “Schutzhund” dog should not only be a fierce protector but should also be a responsible member of society, controllable and mannerly in social situations. With some breeds earning a successful Schutzhund title is the pre-requisite to using the dog in a breeding program in Germany. The Doberman’s development in Germany has been tempered with responsibility on the part of the owner being a main ingredient in his training and upbringing.

The Doberman requires a strong and sensible owner who has knowledge of dogs and canine behavior. The Doberman must first of all be responsibly bred and then socialized early and faithfully trained in obedience and it can be a great family companion and still maintain a naturally protective instinct. In the United States the Doberman Club has from the beginning provided a responsible approach to educating the public about the breeding, socialization and training of their protégé. To a large degree this has protected the Doberman Dog from becoming a status symbol for violent members of society, as has been the sad fate of the Pitbull.

In today’s society the Doberman is often a champion in the obedience trials. As an example in 1992, The A.K.C. recorded in their records 2, 175 CDX titles earned by Dobermans. The Doberman Club has for years put strong emphasis on providing education for the public about the potential working abilities of their breed and many are trained in tracking, search and rescue and police dogs.

The Doberman Pinscher for many years suffered from Von Willebrands Disease but now that there is a DNA test for this problem it can be avoided through responsible breeding. Wobbler’s syndrome, bone cancer and heart problems are also prevalent in the Doberman breed and responsible breeders usually test for these conditions.

The Doberman Pinscher is described in the A.K.C. standard as “Elegant in appearance, of proud carriage, reflecting great nobility and temperament,” and the temperament is further described as “Energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient.” Owners of Dobermans should have a sense of responsibility and determination also and if they follow through on good socialization and training for their dog they will have a dog that exemplifies every aspect of a great companion and watch dog for their family.

New Year’s Resolutions? Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself

Have you set resolutions for yourself to accomplish in 2005? Maybe you want to get more exercise, eat healthier, or spend more time with your family. If you’re in business for yourself, maybe you are thinking about hiring a bookkeeper, working fewer hours, or beefing up your marketing plan. All of those things are very good goals, but how do you really feel about them? If you’re like me, you probably think that you need resolutions, and furthermore, you have to accomplish all of them in order to be successful. How can we not feel that way when the media is chirping away about making and keeping our new year’s resolutions?

Well, maybe you should go a little easier on yourself. What about trying just one new thing to improve your life in some small way? This can either be something personal or professional. The important thing to remember is that this “thing,” whatever it is, should be important to you, and bring value to your life in some way. Even if it’s just taking 20 minutes at the end of each day to kick back, close your eyes and do absolutely nothing; if that will improve your peace-of-mind or help you to relax, that’s great — mission accomplished!

Try to remember that we are all human, and that no one is perfect. Take baby steps to reach your goals, and they won’t seem so overwhelming. And if things are just fine in your life right now, and you don’t feel the need to make any improvements, then don’t. It’s that simple. Don’t worry about having lofty goals — just focus on smaller ones as you see fit.

By taking care of yourself, and not putting the pressure on to create resolutions that you may never keep, you’ll be able to enjoy 2005 to your fullest. Here’s to a healthy, happy, and successful year ahead…your way!!

3 Steps to Drawing in Highly Motivated Prospects or Customers

3 Steps to Producing Motivated Prospects and Customers

With the many ways to advertise, it is easy to sometimes be in a rush to just get something out somewhere. But, no matter where you plan to advertise, there are several basic fundamentals that will help create advertisements that are effective and profitable. Here are three that will get you headed in the right direction.

First on the check list is; is your unique selling position (USP) clear and provoking?

You need to find out what makes your business different from that of your competitors. From that, you can develop a strategy based on the strengths or even weaknesses of those differences. Actually, good marketers identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOTs) and develop their strategy from those factors. Here is an example of a USP that stems from a companies weakness:

“We’re not #1, so we work harder to get the job done.”

In this example, a weakness was used to let customers know that they will do what it takes to get the job done. Customers know that they are not #1 so the service and pricing will be competitive.

Having a USP is extremely important in setting you apart from your competitors. It is what gets you into the minds and eventually the wallets of your customers and prospects.

Effective Headings and Ad Copy

In developing effective headings and ad copy, it is essential to live by the adage, Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. Better know as “AIDA.”

This simply means that you grab the attention of the prospect or customer with an compelling headline or graphic, you keep them reading with an interesting ad copy which creates a desire and ends with a powerful call to action .

When developing “AIDA” it is important to keep in mind that all purchases revolve around basic human wants and they fall into two categories; the desire to gain, and the desire to avoid lose. The latter which is usually the most effective. This is an entire article in itself, but if you focus on those two principals, you will be on your way to an effective ad campaign.

It doesn’t matter what you say if your not saying it in the right place.

Just as important as what you say, is where you say it. Where and when you place your ads will have a tremendous effect on the results of those ads. Knowing little facts, such as, the following will give you a much more effective campaign:

Full page ads get better response on the right hand pages.

Larger ads work better than smaller ads.

If placing smaller ads, they are generate more response if lower on the page and closer to the outer margins.

In direct mail, buyers are more responsive to mailings received mid-week than on Mondays, Fridays, or weekends.

Seminars and lectures work better during the second and thirds weeks of the month.

Those are just a few simple facts that will create better response for you. Being a student and learning all the intricate details of advertising will be time well spent in regards to the success of your campaigns.

Ok, so those three simple steps will help you create more effective and more profitable advertising campaigns. Advertising can be costly if the little details are not given proper attention , but highly profitable if you do your homework and create the most compelling ad and place it at the right time and place.

Five Ideas for Unique (and Cheap) Marketing

Home-based businesses generally lack the large marketing budgets of bigger companies, but a smaller budget doesn’t have to stop you from engaging in clever and effective campaigns.

When marketing on a budget, you need to “think outside the box” and go beyond the obvious marketing approaches. Direct mail and banner ads, for example, are one way to go, but if your competition is using similar methods, you need to differentiate yourself.

Below you will find a few unique ways to boost the exposure of your home-based business and generate more sales without depleting your budget.

Idea #1 Offer Something for Nothing

One of the biggest ways to draw a crowd off- and on-line is by offering something for free. In particular, something that will be of interest to your target audience.

For example, if you sell arts and crafts, you might offer a free guide to craft shows in North America. If you sell collectibles, you might offer a free newsletter of tips and news relevant to collectors. If you sell marketing books, you might offer free articles about marketing.

When you provide these types of freebies, people will flock to your site. Some may only be interested in your free stuff, but others will take the next step and become full-fledged customers.

Remember that whatever you give away has a high perceived value, but costs little to produce.

Idea #2 Join On-line Discussion Groups

No matter what you are selling, chances are there’s a discussion group on the Internet patronized by your target audience. The key is to find the right ones and become a member.

Once you find that group, start visiting the forums and message boards and responding to questions regarding your area of expertise. You should create a subtle signature file to post along with your responses. This file should direct people to your web site for further information.

Does this method work? One person who used it earned $6000 just from efforts involving discussion groups.

Idea #3 Consider the Charitable Angle

People enjoy making a contribution to worthy causes and doing business with companies that try to make a difference in the world. Consider setting aside a portion of all sales as donations to a specific charity. Make sure to select a charity with a wide appeal and a good reputation. Don’t forget that these donations also make appropriate topics for press releases which could bring you even more attention and sales.

Idea #4 Repackage Products

After a product has been available for awhile, sales naturally decline. You could lower the price or even discontinue the product altogether as solutions, but a better way to boost slow sales is to repackage those old products and sell them in a whole new way.

Consider bundling multiple products together for one price or offer the older product as a free gift to new customers. You may also want to try it out on a totally new target audience. Simply taking the time to revamp an old product, perhaps with the addition of a new chapter or special feature, can allow it to be sold as an all-new version.

Repackaging can help you boost sales and extend the profitable life of your products.

Idea #5 Sell Yourself as an Expert

No matter what you sell, you are proclaiming yourself to be knowledgeable and experienced in that industry. People want to believe that you are an expert who they can trust with their hard-earned cash. You want to convince people that you are an expert who has products that deliver what you promise.

One of the best ways to do both of these things is to become a speaker on topics related to your industry and to home-based business in general. Speakers are needed at a variety of functions, including trade shows, chamber of commerce functions, high school/college career festivals, and more.

Another way to position yourself as an expert is to become a part-time teacher in a college or community center where you share your knowledge of business and your industry with others. Or consider becoming an author. You could write an e-book related to your business which could gain you considerable recognition as well as revenue.

Any of these methods will help you market yourself as an experienced professional worthy of potential customers’ attention.

With these five ideas and a little creativity, you can take steps to set your business, your product, and your marketing apart from your competition.

Easy-To-Follow Nutrient Ratios: One Minute Lesson

What you are about to discover is a sure-fire, effortless way to easily determine an appropriate nutrient ratio for your own personal goals.

But before I get too far ahead of myself, make sure you understand how to estimate your caloric and protein needs. If you don’t, you can get a copy of the Top 12 Report [link at the end of this article] which will show you the simple to use formulas for calculating your calories. I’m going to 3,000 as the overall calorie requirements for any examples.

While there are several methods to determine your nutrient ratios, this will explain two popular methods referred to as the ISSA 1-2-3 Nutritional Rule-of-Thumb (International Sports Sciences Association). Once you know how many calories a day you need, you can determine the correct ratio.

Let’s examine the ISSA intake guideline of approximately 1 part fat, 2 parts protein and 3 parts carbohydrates. This is generally accepted as a safe way to burn fat for those who are weight training and exercising.

If you were to follow this rule, you would guarantee you you’d be following a diet that was low in fat, moderate in protein and high in carbohydrates.

This probably comes as no surprise but this rule-of-thumb makes it amazingly easy to prioritize your thinking when it comes to purchasing food, preparing meals or even eating out! You won’t be like a rat trapped in a maze anymore.

What I am about to share are two methods for determining your nutrient ratios based on the 1-2-3 rule.

Method 1

If you were any good at math, you can see that the 1-2-3 rule adds up to 6 parts. 1 part fat, 2 parts protein and 3 parts carbohydrates add up to 6 total parts. That is about the number of times per day you should be eating. Small but frequent meals that you might have read about elsewhere.

First, dividing up the number 3,000 in our example by 6 will give you 500 calories per part.

Second, knowing that one part equals 500 calories we can figure out the number of calories for each part based on the 1-2-3 rule-of-thumb.

Fat: 1 part x 500 = 500 calories allotted to fat
Protein: 2 parts x 500 = 1000 calories allotted to protein
Carbs: 3 parts x 500 = 1500 calories allotted to carbs

Note: If you don’t know how many calories are in fat, protein and carbs, let me show you really quick so we can continue on with figuring the proper ratios. You’ll use this later to keep it handy.

Fat = 9 calories per gram
Protein = 4 calories per gram
Carbohydrates = 4 calories per gram

Finally you should begin to notice that if you take the calories allotted to each part and divide that number by the numbers above you get:

Fat Calories: 500/9 = 55g of fat
Protein Calories: 1000/4 = 250 grams of protein
Carbohydrate Calories: 1500/4 = 375 grams of carbs

Figuring out the ratios at this point is just as easy as dividing the nutrient totals by the overall calorie totals.

For example, 500 fat calories / 3000 overall calories = 16% fat. Carrying on you’ll see this is broken down into:

Fat: 17% (rounded up)
Protein: 33%
Carbs: 50%

How’s that for determining your own custom ratio? Now you know how to figure out how many grams of what nutrient you need per day using this simple rule.

Using a diet tracking program, that task should be as easy as cutting a fresh apple pie! But we aren’t finished yet…

Method 2

But what if you don’t want to just follow the simple 1-2-3 rule to lose weight? What if you really want to build muscle and you know you will need more protein?

That’s where you simply modify the above rules to ensure protein is the #1 factor in your calculations. If you’re thinking you have to reverse the formula, you are right but it’s easy if you know how.

Example: Male, 200 lbs, 15% body fat, competitive athlete; using 1.14 grams of protein per lb of body weight for this example.

Protein:

1.14 x 200 lbs = 228 grams of protein a day. If you recall, we know that protein has 4 calories per gram right?

228 grams x 4 calories per gram = 912 calories from protein

Based on the daily calorie needs we used above, 912 protein calories / 3000 overall calories = 30%

30% of the overall calories we need a day are from protein.

Fat:

While the RDA might recommend 30% or less of your calories from fat, keep in mind the 1-2-3 rule which states that 1 part is fat.

1 part in this guideline is roughly 16.6% (but we’ll just round that up for now).

All this means is you want to get 17% of your total daily calories from fat.

17% x 3000 total daily calories = 510 calories from fat…

Are you with me still?

Let’s figure out how many grams that is simply by recalling that a gram of fat is 9 calories.

So 510 fat calories / 9 calories per gram = 56 fat grams per day!

Note: This may be a reduction for some people considering that it’s quite possible you were getting 50% of your total calories from fats. If this is the case, you might just have to adjust the ratios at this point so it’s not too drastic of a change. Slow and steady changes win the race.

Let’s keep going.

Carbohydrates:

3000 daily calories - 510 fat calories - 912 protein calories = 1578 carb calories.

Again, if you recall there’s 4 calories in a gram of carbohydrates.

1578 carb calories / 4 calories per gram = 395 grams of carbs per day.

If you ever wanted to know the specific ratios, it’s just as simply as taking the nutrient calories divided by the number of overall calories.

In this example, 1578 carb calories / 3000 daily calories = 52%. So 52% of your overall daily calories come from carbs. You can do the same formula for the rest to see the exact nutrient percentages as shown in Method 1 above.

Hopefully you are still reading and if you are then just remember no matter if you use Method 1 or Method 2 of the 1-2-3 rule-of-thumb that is 1 part fat, 2 parts protein and 3 parts carbohydrates, it’s valid for most people who are trying to melt fat while exercising. The rule can be changed to allow for muscle gain or fat loss.

Your Burning Questions Part 5

This email took a little longer than expected to get out.
When you’re a network marketer you have to support your team
in every situation possible, well that’s what I had to do
toady!

But never to disappoint here is our final installment of
your most burning questions!

(Many more questions were sent in than I could answer. I
will do my best to answer as many of them personally as I
can. In this series I wanted to make sure to answer the
biggest questions so that’s what we’ve done!)

Stay glued because tomorrow morning I will be choosing our
winner of the BIGGEST burning question and I will be send
them their prize!!!

===========================
Question #1
===========================

How do I find qualified people that want to learn more and
have the money
to pay for it. Unlike myself that is struggling to exist out
here without a
job and running out of time quickly.

Everyone offers free ebooks, I have over 3000 of them but
they don’t help unless you have money to advertise or have a
list. I have no list and no money how do I do this
opportunity.

My Question is HOW do I get interested people involved in
it. Without
spending any more money!!! Guru’s do it because of who they
know, and JV’s
together, not what they send us in BS and ebooks.

Steve Hall

===========================

Steve,

Very good question!!!

8 months ago before I started my network marketing business
I didn’t have a list or any of the other benefits of what
someone would consider a guru.

So I can tell you exactly how to grow your business without
any prior leverage!

The simple answer is start marketing.

The first thing that I did to jumpstart my business was to
send out a few emails to some strong online publications.

The second thing that I did was I started a PPC campaign
with Google Adwords. These two actions brought me my first
50 or so team members.

So you can start marketing without a list and have success.

After this initial success it was simply a matter of
leveraging that success into bigger successes by teaching my
team exactly what I had done to get them so that they could
leverage my knowledge for our overall benefit.

Now you ask . . How can you do it without money?

Well what I did took money. About $232 to be exact.

How can you achieve success without money. Well, the first
thing that you are going to have to do is change your
perspective on your business.

If you are trying to grow a business on a $0 budget you are
going to have to devote some SERIOUS time and you should
expect this from the outset. There are ways to generate
traffic for free online, but they all take a great deal of
time.

If I were to go into marketing my business with no money
online I would devote 100% of my efforts to writing and
distributing articles on a large scale. I don’t mean writing
one article a week and distributing it to 5 article
directories I mean writing 10 to 20 articles a week and
distributing them to at least 30 article directories a piece
every week for at least 2 months.

With that sort of out put I would generate a moderate
response. Not the level of response that I speak about
above, but I would generate some measurable success that
would grow virally over the course of time.

Now here are the downfalls to going in on a $0 budget. It’s
not that duplicable. You are not going to find many people
who can or are willing to put out this sort of an effort to
see results, so if you are going to go in with no money are
going to have to be knowledgeable about paid advertising as
well because this is what your new recruits will gravitate
towards.

People want results fast and there is no way to do that
without money or without a list so you are going to have to
show them where they can spend their advertising dollar to
generate measurable results in a decent amount of time if
you are going to keep their interest in growing their
business.

It can be done on a $0 budget, but you are still going to
have to know how to teach people to effectively advertise
with money.

===========================
Question #2
===========================

What is your daily routine in your business. For example
when I come to work at
the office I do the following:

1.sort and distribute mail

2.check emails

3.return phone messages

4.file charts.

5.etc

6.etc

What do you do (step by step) as a network marketer so I
can set up some kind of
routine for my network marketing business.

Sharon Baker

===========================

Sharon,

This is a great question! I truly applaud you on it!

Here is what I do on a daily basis to run my business.

Remember I am still doing everything part time like most
other people out there so my time is limited.

When I get up in the morning the first thing that I try to
do is answer as many emails as I can. Usually I devote an
hour to this task.

The next thing that I do is I see if have any new leads in
my business to follow up on. If I do I will attend to that
task because it usually goes hand in hand with email follow
up.

The next thing I do is I ask what I can do to better help my
team grow?

Is there anything that I’m doing wrong? Is there anything
that I can improve?

I jot down these notes and try to attend to them during the
course of the week.

After this I try to send out a message to either my team or
my internet mlm success subscribers or both if need be. This
task can take an hour or more if I’m writing a couple
emails.

Then I go to work.

When I return home I check my email to see if there are any
pressing matters that need to be attended to and I respond
to the emails that I’ve sent in the morning.

It is usually at night when I set up and track new or
ongoing advertising cmapaings so this is when I attend to
this task. This can take either no time or quite a bit of
time depending on the task.

If there are any eBooks or new idea to learn I also try to
do this in the afternoon to see what I can add or augment in
my personal business plan.

Finally throughout the day I speak to and try to help those
people that call me for either downline training or
questions about joining my business. Usually I try to tell
people to call between 6 and 8pm but I get calls from all
over the world so it ends up being an ongoing task
throughout the day.

That’s about it!

A lot goes into my days, but it’s routine now and once
something is a habit it becomes second nature.

===========================
Question #3
===========================

Well I have recieved your internet mlm success already

I also bought the book you recommended the truth about
internet marketing.

I am very frustrated, confused and just about ready to give
up.

I use google adwords, with no success.

I guess my question is this.

===========================

Larry,

I want you to give me a call as you are a member of my team.
If you are willing to work with me I have a plan for you
that will without a doubt will produce the result that you are
looking for.

Unlike many you quote a large enough figure to start your
trail towards success with 100% certainty based my experience.

With what you have proposed I will show you exactly what you
need to do when we speak, but here is the basic premise.

In an online world if you want to create a stable and long
term business you should have a product of your own.

It’s tough in the MLM industry because it’s hard to create a
product that has credibility if you don’t have prior
success, but that’s one of the reasons that I created Net
MLM Profits.

Anyone who purchases that guide has 100% resale rights to it
so they can set it up and resell it for themselves.

Having a leverage such as this will allow you to grow a list
of exactly the type of prospects that you want to attract in
network marketing while having your marketing effort pay for
itself.

Here’s an example I gave to one of my new team members a
couple of days ago.

I told him that if he wanted to set Net MLM Profits up if he
could generate 1000 leads in a month he would automatically
generate a marketing budget of $810 conservatively.

I say this because out of 1000 leads he would have at least
30 sales on the very conservative side which is a 3%
conversion ratio. So that means that if he could generate at
leads at $0.81 or less he would automatically put himself
into a breakeven or better situation.

Why?

Because 1000 lead / $810 = $.81 per lead

He would only have to grow his list at 33 leads a day and at
the end of the month he would not only have made at leas 30
sales but he would have a list of leads worth $810 for
FREE!

Duplicate this month after month and you can start to see
the type of growth in a business that this can create.

Anyways . . .

Larry give me a call. You know where to find me and we’ll get
you on the right track!

Time for a Change

As 2005 approaches, many of us are thinking about change. Many of us are setting goals, and making promises to ourselves and to those we love. We may vow to do everything differentbetternext year. We set lofty expectations to lose weight, learn a 2nd or 3rd language, never yell at our kids again, or give up our vices completely. And as the calendar closes out one year in favor of another, the timing seems just perfect to make those changes. But are we really, really ready? Attempting to change before we have made a fully educated CHOICE to commit to the process may be our first (and biggest) New Year’s mistake.

Psychologists Prochaska, Norcross, and DiClemente, among others, have developed a theory about the process of change, and the process by which we can be effective at implementing long term change in our lives. This Transtheoretical Model involves a number of steps by which people have been professionally and successfully treated and taught to manage their problem behaviors through behavior modification. As you read, ask yourself where you are in the process of change, and what obstacles are standing in your way from reaching the next level, and ultimately success. The example I use is to illustrate is one of weight loss; however, virtually any goal you may have to improve your relationships, time management or organizational skills, or any other aspect, fits the model.

1. PRECONTEMPLATION. In this stage, a person is unaware or under-aware that he or she has a problem. There is no expressed desire to make any changes, and no real concern or immediacy for anything to be different. If asked, we might say that things are fine, and that if nothing is different a year from now, it would be okay. Others around us may think we have a problem, or may be concerned about us, but we don’t see their need for concern, or simply don’t care. We may be in a state commonly referred to as “denial” or may just be resigned to being this way forever.

2. CONTEMPLATION. In this stage, an individual has become aware that there may be a problem, and has begun considering doing something about it. An overweight person may notice that he or she is out of breath when walking a short flight of stairs, or notices that his or her clothes don’t fit the way they used to. A smoker realizes that his or her health may be in jeopardy, and is beginning to “wish” that things could be different. When in this stage we often talk about how we really should x, y or z. We should go to the gym. We should say no to chocolate super fudge brownies. We should eat more fruits and veggies. We should…we should….we should…but we don’t.

3. COMMITMENT. In this stage, we have actually accepted that we have a problem and ARE going to do something about it. We are motivated to change. It is no longer acceptable to stay the same. The thought of NOT changing is unbearable. We can’t stand being out of shape any more. We are sick of the way we feel about ourselves. We are sick of watching life instead of participating in it. We go beyond saying “I should” and begin saying “I will.” We often enter this stage and commit to change only when the alternative is no longer tolerable. We’ve become sick and tired of being sick and tired. It is in this stage that changeand progressare born.

4. PREPARATION. So we’ve decided to change. Perhaps we’ve decided to lose weight, or be more active, or change our eating habits, or stop telling ourselves negative thoughts. So how do we go about doing that? We need a plan. We brainstorm. This is our “could” stage. We think of every possible alternative and resource. We could join a gym. We could hire a personal trainer. We could eat nothing but lean cuisines. We could go on a grapefruit diet. We could exercise an hour every day. They may be realistic, or downright crazy, but we’re brainstorming. We look at our options, and we choose the ones that will work for us. We prepare for battle. We buy the workout outfits with the matching headbands. We invest in expensive home gym equipment. We buy unproven supplements from professional looking models on TV. We rid our homes of dangerous temptations. We devise a plan, and are intent on following it through. We are ready.

5. ACTION. We’ve committed. We’ve prepared. We are physically, emotionally, and spiritually ready to embark on a journey by which we will improve our lives. And we follow our plan. The action stage is the “I am” stage. I am working out 3 days a week. I am following a sound nutrition plan. I am catching myself and the negative things I say to myself about food and my weight. I am proud of myself. I am doing. I am acting responsibly. I am changing and I feel it. This stage, when employed consistently, will result in the changes for which we have prepared and desired for so long. Is it easy? No. Is it always fun? No. Does it take a great deal of motivation, support, desire, and tenacity? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. If you stick to it, will it happen? Yes. The key is to enjoy the doing as much as the results of doing. Take pride in the fact that you are behaving better. You deserve respect. You’re doing more than most. You’re way ahead of where you were in the game back when. The secret is to keep doing. It takes a week or less to form a bad habit; it takes at least 30 consistent abstinent days to break one. Give yourself time to form good habits that will last you long after you’ve reached your weight loss goal. Just keep doing.

6. MAINTENANCE. Whew! You’ve been behaving in ways that have resulted in changes, and avoided behaviors which have hurt you or others. You feel proud when you look in the mirror. You hold your head higher. You have more self confidence. You interact with others more positively. Things are good. However, the danger of this stage, after we’ve made some big changes, is that we slide into complacency. We’re no longer so uncomfortable that we MUST change, and we are at high risk for relapse into past unhealthy and ineffective behaviors. Research shows that people who are able to maintain healthy changes for a minimum of six months have a great chance of success. If we can maintain the positive behaviors that have helped us reach our goal, without focusing on the result, but the processthen we are on our way to lifelong changes. All those good habits that were hard for us at timesworking out, watching what we eat, encouraging ourselves, getting support from othershave become part of our lifestyle. It’s just what we do, and the alternative is not an option.

When we have gotten to the point where we have implemented healthy lifestyle BEHAVIORS into our daily living, and continue to engage in those healthy behaviors regardless of the fact that we have reached a weight loss goal, it is THEN that we will have been truly successful at changing for life. When it becomes unthinkable to BEHAVE differently, then we will have reached the point where weight is no longer the focus of our goals, and will no longer be a source of low self-esteem. After all, we will be managing our lives in a way that demands respect from others, and it will show not only in the fitness of our bodies, but in the confidence and pride with which we greet the world. And THAT is where real success is measured.
