Poker Players and Substance Abuse Yes, the title is a little misleading, but so is the study it talks about. While some online poker participants admitted to using other drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine and/or benzodiazepines (valium and similar drugs), this was a very small minority. The sample size of the study was also negligently left out of the report, and if you’re going to do a study with statistical analysis, the “n=” or sample size is important to determine the margin of error and confidence rating. I think a more appropriate study would be one that tests for performance enhancing drugs that would actually have an effect, such as the amphetamines, opiates, or benzodiazepines, but caffeine shouldn’t be included.
