New Touch Screen Technology Launched By Displax

An innovative product launched by a Portuguese company Displax is all set to change the way we input data and commands on our electronic devices. The company has developed a thin plastic film, which can be used on any surface to work as a touch screen. The thinner than paper plastic film has multi touch sensing and when applied to a surface transforms it into a multi touch screen.

With the launch of this new multi touch skin the use of the keyboards and other input devices will become redundant, because the user will only need his fingers to communicate with the device. Even now, the concept of touch screens is quite popular among users. Up until now the use of such screens was only seen in smart phones and in many Apple products including the recently launched Apple tablet. With this multi touch skin the application of touch screen will widen to other areas as well by converting traditional devices to touch screen devices.

This multi touch film has a matrix of wires embedded in it with the help of which it picks the electrical impulse of the touch and passes it to the computer for processing. The multi touch skin can register up to 16 touches on a 50 inch screen. This film can also be used on various screens from a 7 inch screen to a screen as large as three metres.

The use of this film will not only revolutionise the manner of usage of electronic products like LCD monitor and cell phones, but now businesses can use this multi touch skin on the windows of shops to make the process of shopping interactive.

A useful addition to any hand-held mobile device, and going by trends something that will catch on and only add to the growing popularity of using mobile broadband. For a current range of laptop add-ons (click dongle pay as you go) and mobile broadband info, one can refer to this comparison table for products.

Skype Introduces Video Calling via TV

Skype has confirmed news that it is collaborating with LG and Panasonic to come up with an internet- enabled TV set that can play HD videos.

In an online report by technology site Shiny Shiny, it was made known that Skype was trying to come up with a new system that could enable video calling through television sets that have the Skype software installed on them.

Skype suggests using a 1Mb symmetric broadband connection in order to use the internet-enabled TV and the TV-ready webcam (click for unlimited broadband info). This would be a realistic approach as it would give users the luxury of sitting on their comfortable sofas and communicate effortlessly with the help of readily available long-range microphones.

It was also publicized by Skype that it would provide services that would support 720p HD videos on PCs as well as television sets. However, in order to make these HD video calls, a user must have a speedy broadband connection, a PC with a 1.8 GHz dual-core processor, an HD webcam and Skype 4.2 Beta for Windows.

Optimised HD webcams compatible with Skype from faceVsion and In Store are likely to be exhibited at the Consumer Electronic Show that will take place in 2010.

In addition, Phone.com had earlier prophesized a growth in VoIP hardware sales in 2010, attributed to the fact that companies are cutting phone costs.

Vodafone to Launch Super-Fast 3G Connection

Vodafone have announced that they are rolling out a 14.4Mbit mobile broadband connection in the UK. This speed will be launched in limited areas initially, named as London, Birmingham, and Liverpool, before releasing it across more of the larger cities in the UK.

Jeni Mundy, Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone UK, said: “Customers trust us to deliver a mobile network that they can rely on - wherever they are and whether they are individuals, or a small, medium or large business.
“Today’s network upgrade means customers can be reassured we’re consistently enhancing the quality of our network in response to demand.”

Previously, users in certain areas could achieve 7.2Mbit, and this was the fastest 3g connection on offer in the UK. Vodafone are known for pushing the boundaries, and this is what makes them an increasingly big player in both the mobile phone and mobile broadband market. Customers will not need to pay any additional charge to access the service.

Certain groups have criticised the plan to launch the service in the cities, where decent broadband connections can be found in abundance. People who live in rural areas often have to make-do with sluggish broadband speeds. It a similar scenario as seen in any capitalist world. As internet usage in the UK increases, it’s only a matter of time before it must be recognised as a public service by the government. When this happens, we may see publicly funded high speed connections in rural areas.

For the time being, people who live within commutable distances of cities, and in sub-rural areas can use a vodafone 3g usb stick to connect to the internet, and this can also be used if the user wishes to take their laptop computer out on the move.

Outgrowing Our dedicatedT1

At the time when our business was growing fast, it became obvious that we needed a bigger pipe. The T1 that we had simply was not large enough for our data.

Since I am the IT guy, I was asked to renegotiating our current contract. Luckily our company’s 2 year contract was almost over, so we were in the position to shop around for different alternatives.

The most apparent answer was to change from a single t1 to a bonded T1. Yet with our growth rate, pretty soon that also would not be sufficient.

Our sales rep at this carrier (who will remain nameless here) of course was happy to recommend a bigger and far more high-priced solution: a DS3 (T3 line) with a capacity of 45 Mbps. Obviously that would be bandwidth enough taking our envisioned growth into consideration, it was perhaps even way too much. And the cost per month was in the higher 4 digit figures.

With due diligence I did some more research until I found something that sounded too good to be true. A new technology (or at least new to me) which enables carriers to deliver bandwidth via an Ethernet port over plain old telephone lines, also called Ethernet over Copper. The pricing was super; we were able to get 10Mbps for less than a 3mb bonded t-1!

Another main benefit of ethernet over copper wires is the scalability. We can just add bandwidth by simply ordering more, in small incremental steps, even all the way up to a gigabit Ethernet circuit.

So when upgrading any services, be sure to shop around with several carriers and make sure you are aware of new technologies (or use a telecommunications consultant that is).

Australia and Italy Leave UK Lagging in Mobile Broadband

Italy will soon have its very own 28Mbps mobile broadband service. Telecom Italia and Ericsson, the Swedish technology firm have been working on this project for a long time, and it is finally ready to be launched in June, with Milan being the first city to enjoy this facility. The service will be launched for the entire country in the later half of the year.

Ericsson is one of the leading telecom technology companies in the world. It has been actively working on developing the HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) technology. The latest technology that the firm plans to incorporate in Italy’s mobile broadband service is that of MIMO (Multiple Input and Multiple Output) which will allow faster downloads because of data transmission through more than two antenna branches.

Italy’s mobile broadband launch follows the launch of a 21Mb mobile broadband service by the Australian firm Telstra, which is currently offering its services to business customers as a start with a full-fledged rollout expected in April this year. However, in light of the Australian pricing being extremely high, it is expected that users in Italy too will have to pay a steep price to enjoy the fast broadband service.

Irrespective of the costs, the benefits of the new network are certainly going to be substantial, as the service in Italy is believed to be four times faster than similar 3g internet services in the UK. It is not yet clear whether the new service would be able to tackle problems like lower ‘actual connection speeds’ caused due to local conditions like the weather hampering the smooth functioning of the service.

Get Wise to Phone Bills!

Everyone hates phone bills,in fact no one likes bills in general. You always take the various amenities and tools of everyday life such as your phone, for granted, until the irritating day the bill arrives. There is always something else you would rather spend your money on, for me, I’m a sucker for the latest gadgets; and when you are faced with so many new products and are bombarded with adverts everywhere you look at Christmas, it can be particularly difficult. I made a fantastic discovery last week which not only gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new gadget, but will also save me money, letting me make cheap calls to Singapore so eventually it will actually pay for itself.

I’m talking about voice over IP which is a useful way of making really cheap phone calls over the internet. I really don’t know how I have overlooked this fantastic little gadget before. All you need to do is buy a VoIP phone, get assigned a number and then use your phone as you would normally and enjoy all the money you have saved. I know exactly what I am going to spend it on as well, an awesome gadget I’ve seen which lets you wirelessly stream music to your hifi! You can just never have enough gadgets.

How to get a Free Line Rental Mobile Contract

Most people tend to have little understanding of free line rental packages as they are a recent trend. It is likely that the fact they are widely unknown that keeps them the cheapest phone deals around currently.

Theoretically a 12 month free offer shouldnt cost a penny to run. This is true only so long as the individual in question is successful in making a request for for 100% cashback by redemption. It is rare that this is nearly as easy as it first seems as sellers build in a few dirty tricks in the conditions of free line rental products in order to cut back on the quantity of successful customers.

A free line rental offer is a kind of refund by redemption offer. What this means is you pay the bill as usual for the first few months. Then it is down to you to remember to claim one hundred percent of the cost of the mobile cellular phone back from the vendor which first gave you the mobile cellular phone.

12 month free is a kind of compromise, as it is only made available with older phones. The biggest pitfall of free line rental deals is the fact that should the shop fold you have now way to redeem your 100% cash back.

Despite the potential problems of free line rental packages they are genuine and customers are able to obtain completely cost free mobile phone for full duration of a 12 month contract.

The most competitively priced place to find a free line rental phone contract is online. As free line rental products are a niche promotion it is advisable to find a comprehensive a comparison site specialising in mobile phones to find the best products at the time.
