All of us are resistant to change, whether it’s in using a different tool, a technique a choice in partners, or lifestyle.

The ones that resist the most have big labels like, orthodox, traditionalist, extremist. They are the defenders of the faith, of the known, and of the accepted.

Some of the rest of us are followers, disciples, and supporters; we are the middleman, the ones that support the orthodox, the traditionalist and the extremist because after all without us what would these people be defending. We are the ones the cast the deciding vote for this group and the next group which are the leaders, the explorers and the visionaries.

All of these people are grouped together on a small planet with intention, it didn’t happen by accident. What we are doing is creating chaos, and what chaos does, is drive us to create order or make sense of what it is we are doing.

In my day job, I am paired up with all of these kinds of people every day in their homes and I may spend as long as two hours in conversation with them.

I always expend a few moments with them in casual talk before I move onto the reason for me being there. It often comes out that I am a writer and teacher. The reaction is always the same; they perk up as if in they are in the presence of someone famous. They will ask me if I have published any books and when I answer yes they are even more excited. Then they ask the more enlightening question, what do I write about? There are usually only two reactions to my answer. A sudden shift to the work at hand and why I am there in the first place, or they bring out their crosses and shove them in my face as a potential victim of a vampire would hold up the cross to the beast.

There are very few that are interested enough to ask me what it is all about, which fits into my own personal policy very nicely of not giving unless asked. I write and I teach because I have a desire to learn about the subject. This is the very small group that I am interested in. It is those that want to learn and are ready to be open to new ideas that would benefit mostly from what I know. But the real benefited, is my self.

Even in this small group, if one looks closely there is still something that each individual hangs onto dearly, even if it is only his or her name.

The root cause for this resistance is fear; it is the ego that fears for its extinction. As a race of physical beings with awareness of self, we have become very comfortable in the illusion of time and space. Because in ignorance we fear that we have very little of either, we move to protect our beliefs and move in slow deliberate steps, that may take a lifetime or several to move us from one step to the next.

I have heard it many times before as I am sure you have. “What if I am wrong,” “what if I have lived my whole life believing something that is wrong?” “I can’t start over now,” it’s too late!

This is an extreme fear that freezes us in time and the fear is unfounded only in that it is born from ignorance or forgetfulness.

The one really big aspect of the notion of “unconditional love,” which is “unconditional freedom,” that I cherish the most is that I know we have this freedom to come back lifetime after lifetime to screw up our lives as many times as we desire until we have found the will to break open the paper chains that we have bound ourselves and move to the next step in our personal spiritual growth. Life does not end at the cross, the cross is a bridge to a new awareness and is only a symbol of limited thought, which all symbols are.

While I was in the kitchen just now making myself a cup of tea, I was reminded that this bid of enlightenment is meaningless, unless I give it some meaning. Spirituality or awareness is practical, you should be able to put a key into it and turn it on to work for you.

Using this knowledge I am reminded that each and every morning when I go into work and have to listen to the boss ramble on, I resist his thoughts and think that he is not living in the real world and assume that what I am experiencing in the field is the real world. I remind myself that his thoughts have merit and I rationalize that what I have been doing is working and I just don’t want to try these things. I know that my productively would increase, I just don’t want it to for various reasons. The biggest reason is fear of success; fear that with success, the lifestyle that I have become accustomed to will change. I will loose my identity and will not be able to relate to this new person that I will become. Ego always fears for its own existence and it does not want to be left behind.

Resistance is simply a slowing process, we all change whether we want to believe or like it. Resistance offers us time to adapt to new things and accept them and some of us move slower than others. Should one become aware of past and future lives, we are given reprieve from the urgency of change and resistance to it because we know that time does not exist and that we never loose our identity.

We will collectively experience everything that is, all probabilities will be explored, and the fear that we now harbour will pass as we become aware of our immortality.

The fact that all these different types of groups live together on the same planet brings chaos or movement to the planet which in turn brings change as we seek to bring order to our lives. Life is change, life cannot exist outside of change, and it is our differences that drive us forward to the next step in our evolution or awareness of that which we are. It is possible for us to be aware of change and move with it without experiencing this fear.

Resistance is something that works for us within the model that each of us has of our world and our relationship to it. Awareness breaks down resistance and moves us forward, and for each of us in our own good time.

Although I resist change myself in my physical life, spiritually I recognize that change is inevitable and I practice consideration for those that both live in the fear of change and for those that move on without me.

I understand that those that I bring into my life represent opportunities for change and I bring them to me deliberately for purpose of change. I also know that I will not always recognize them as such. I know that opportunity always knocks more than once and that I live in choice and freedom that is unconditionally mine by my very nature as a spiritual human being. This is one area that flows easily from me without all the resistance. Symbols of resistance are acknowledgements for me that I can relate to and move past from awareness of their existence, and they do not need to be changed or ignored, but simply noticed as I would notice a turn in my path or a pothole in the road.

Resistance may be a human condition, but it is also spiritual because that is what we are, and it has purpose.

What areas of your life are working well? Career? Finances?

Relationships? Health?

When life works you enjoy fulfillment, happiness, and a sense
of well being. “I know how to do this thing called life, and I’m
doing it well.”

Areas that do not work create stress, fear, and anxiety. We loose
sleep. Self-talk quickly degenerates into, “I’m a loser. I
can’t do anything right. Nothing will ever change.” How can you
rebuild inside and have life humming again?

Five Tips for Inner Repair

1.Pick one challenging area

How do you feel about yourself? What is your inner self-talk
in this area? Are you judging yourself, someone
else, the world? What do you fear others are saying about you?

2.Let go

Observe your thoughts and feelings.

Adopt the position of neutrality. Pretend you are scientist
watching a specimen under a microscope. Approach your
behavior, thoughts and feelings as “Oh, that’s
interesting.”Do not assign meaning.

3.Stop taking life personally

Take a nice deep breath and repeat, “This is not about me.I don’t
need to control this.”
Entertain the thought that everything is FOR you, not against you.

4.Accept your feelings

Make them OK. Feelings are energy, not
enemies. Stop judging your feelings and allow them to be.

5.Make different choices

Is there a different choice I could make in this situation?
What outer step supports that new behavior?

Adjust your inner lens slightly and you have a different view
that creates lasting change. Practice new choices with patience
and soon your career, marriage, finances and health
will work for you and life will be rich in abundance and loving.

Taking Bodybuilding supplements is like an insurance policy for my body

There are many health benefits besides muscle gain and fat loss that can be achieved with the whey protein, soy protein, and green tea extract found in certain Bodybuilding Supplements.

For starters, beyond building muscle, whey protein strengthens the immune system. Who wouldn’t want to be stronger and more resistant to illness? Besides compounding the muscle building efforts of whey protein, soy protein can also help lower cholesterol and the risk of heart disease.

Finally, not only does green tea extract bolster the fat loss that results from having built up all that lean muscle, but it also aids digestion, combats headaches and attributes to overall general well-being.

As a body builder I am always looking for things that can enhance my workouts and help to make them more effective. For me that includes taking bodybuilding supplements.

It is not so much a choice of whether I need to take them but more of a case of which ones should I take. Sometimes a body-builder’s diet can be so high in protein, which is good, but I think that the focus is not on vitamins as much as it should or could be.

Taking Bodybuilding supplements is like an insurance policy for my body. I am going to be strong and healthy.

Learning To Be In The Moment

Imagine thinking clearly, and feeling relaxed at will. Could you get more done? Enjoy life more? Would you like to know how to do that right now? Start by learning how to put yourself more in the moment with a simple mindfulness exercise.

Basic Mindfulness Exercises

A basic mindfulness exercise begins with sitting down, relaxing and breathing deeply. Close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing, following the breath in and out a few times. Then move your attention to your body, one part at a time, noticing any sensations of cold, hot, tight, sore or anything you can identify. After a few minutes, start listening to the sounds of the room, without judging, criticising or thinking about them. Just listen for a minute.

Open your eyes and look around as if seeing for the first time. Rest your eyes on any object for half a minute. Examine it without talking about it in your mind. Repeat this with another object, and then another, while still maintaining an awareness of your body and breath. Continue this state of mindfulness until you’re ready to get up.

When sensing your body, your breath, and your immediate surroundings, you are more fully “in the moment.” A mindfulness exercise like this puts your mind in a receptive state while removing mental distractions that hinder clear thinking. It leaves you ready to work mentally. Do this before important mental tasks and you’ll find you have more focus and concentration.

Using Mindfulness For Daily Life

When you’re in the middle of a task and feel stressed, stop. Take three deep breaths, then carefully watch yourself until identify what is bothering you. Find everything you can. Are you expecting something bad to happen? Is an argument from this morning still going on just below the surface of your consciousness? Are you worried about something? Is some part of your body in pain? Note everything you find.

Now deal with these thieves-of-concentration one by one. Make the phone call that’s on your mind, take an aspirin if you need to, and apologise to someone if necessary. Take things from your mind and put them on a list for tomorrow (in writing). If all you can do is acknowledge that there’s nothing you can do right now - do that. After doing this mindfulness exercise, you’ll feel less stressed, and you’ll be able to concentrate more effectively on the tasks at hand. Try it now.

The fever had been high late into the night, but at 2:30 A.M., it broke. The little girl’s mother breathed out in relief. She’ll be O.K. in the morning, she thought.

Harry shifted into second as he approached the top of the hill. It’s 2:45 and 330 miles to go before Tulsa, he told himself, as he started imagining the hotcakes and sausages at Dolly’s Diner. He looked to the eastern horizon. Stars stared back at him from the very rim.

Bernice peered through the gap in the curtains, careful not to move them for fear someone would notice. Though it was ten minutes ’til three, the noise next door continued: words and objects sailing through the air, hurting and crashing when they hit. Bernice wondered if this apartment had been a good move after all. Cheaper is not always better, especially when you’re 77 and all alone. She stayed close to the phone, its 9-1-1 programmed into the auto-dialer. If only morning would come, she worried. Surely they’ll be worn out by then. She expected a gun shot at any moment.

Paul’s eyes popped open at 3:02. Still dark? he frowned. Every year the same thing. The night before the State Fair seems to last forever. He rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

All four longed for dawn, each for his or her own reason.

The poet says: “My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning” (Ps. 130:6). Whether your reason is concern for an ailing loved one, a desire to complete your task, fear of physical harm, anticipation of something wonderful, or some other reason, wait for the Lord–eagerly and confidently. Like the dawn, the Lord is worth the wait.

Trouble, trouble, trouble. Nothing but trouble. The night before, I was just talking to a friend-cum-feng-shui master about the direction of my life. The horrible things that are currently going in my life right now. The things that could go wrong, is going to go wrong or has gone wrong. I spent a total of 3 hours complaining, ranting and raving about how unfair life is and how come others who are close to me or my husband can afford luxurious lifestyles. How come they have 2 family cars and we have to share 1 car. How come they can afford to have four computers for the four family members of their home. The youngest being barely 3 have her own computer at all - like she’s got tons of work to do on her own and absolutely needs her own computer, you know what I mean? I was just ranting and raving about how my kids have to fight with me for the computer - me rushing things out for my clients and my kids sitting right next to me, waiting for me to finish with the consistent but patient enquiries like, ‘Mom, are you done yet?’ or ‘Have you made enough money yet?’.

I can’t think straight with my kids sitting right next to me, waiting to pound my keyword into pieces the moment I am done with my 12th article for the day. It’s a little bit like having President Bush sitting right next to you informing you about personal sacrifice for the benefit of the entire nation! You just can’t say ‘no’ because if you do, you’ll feel like a total loser.

But I realize how insignificant my so-called problems are when compared to the kind of problems that some others have.

Children suffering
Children in poor countries are suffering without food, without adequate clothing, without a roof over their heads. Some have no mothers, some have no fathers. Some have no one to call a family at all, loitering and wandering through the rubbish-strewn streets, looking, searching, finding, losing….for nothing in particular. Their minds are in shambles because they no longer have anywhere to belong to. Everything becomes a complete blur and yet their focus is on the most basic form of need - survival.

Jobless people
I am lucky enough to have work. I don’t have a job but I have a business. I fought really hard to be where I am today but needless to say, I am well educated and I know how to be resourceful BECAUSE I have parents who raised me well and have forced me to be independent from very early on in my life. Some people without jobs have absolutely nothing. I have a computer, can afford internet access, phone to conduct my business. Some people have no jobs, no computer, no internet access and no phone. Asking these people to buck up and look for something to do is like asking them to go scour for useful rubbish in the public dump site.

Beaten and bruised
Most of us have people who loves us and adore us. Most of us have someone whom we can call family or at least good friends. Some don’t.

Beaten and bruised. Belittled and have no sense of self because of the brutal and constant mental and physical beatings that they have taken from the people they thought loved them. They have been betrayed by people whom they thought they loved and could trust.

Those are just a few types of people who have it worse than most of us.

Collecting cans
I was buying a packet of cigarette from the petrol station tonight, when I saw someone looking through the garbage cans unabashedly when I alighted my car. My car was parked, but I was waiting for the man looking through the trash can to go away because I don’t want him jumping into my car. He suddenly lifted his gaze and looked my way. His eyes were red, not from alcohol or drugs, but from fear, from tears. From torture from pain, from confusion and embarrassment.

We held each other’s gaze for about 20 - 30 seconds, while I waited and he waited, gauging and guessing each other’s thoughts. I guess he was sizing me up in pretty much the same way I was sizing him up. Then he dropped his gaze because in the large scheme of things, he concluded that I was obviously superior.

He continued to scour the garbage cans. In his right hand, he held a large plastic bag. I saw him take out and place empty coke cans into the bag as he went from trash can to trash can. My heart melted and my fears and anxiety dissipated.

What a horribly selfish person I am. Here is a man who was looking for trash to sell and the night before, I spent 3 hours complaining about the kind of luxuries I have that he doesn’t.

What a selfish, selfish person I am.

Breathing is a continuous activity in the life of man. Man can live without other basic needs, but cannot stay without the presence of oxygen. Usually breathing is performed without paying any attention to it; however, attention is required to control it.

Pranayam is the best form of controlling breath. When you breathe oxygen enters your lungs and stimulates all the organs in the body. This procedure indicates that you are alive. When this function stops you happen to cease.

But it is very essential to breathe in the right mode because it influences every organ in the body. Therefore when we consume cigarettes we inhale carbon dioxide and when this quantity becomes excess in the body it is really poisonous.

Through pranayam we learn to breathe slowly. Therefore we can easily retain the oxygen for a longer duration. It brings calmness to the mind. When we breathe through our nostrils both the spheres of the brain are stimulated.

There is a simple exercise that can be practiced right now. Take a deep breath and hold your stomach and push it. Or else you can inhale the air through your nose while breathing deeply and emit the air through the mouth.

Deep breathing provides many benefits when compared to other exercise programs. You can do it anywhere and anytime, for example, you can do it when you are sitting in front of the PC, in a classroom etc. It is a good exercise for removing stress from your life.

” … When he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived” (Genesis 45:27b).

What a thrill Jacob must have experienced when his sons told him that his beloved Joseph was alive and when he saw the wagon that was to take him to this long-lost and cherished son! Kindness such as Joseph’s becomes the very food and medicine to initiate strength and action.

“When he saw the carts,” his faith was renewed and his heart recovered. Even his old character is revived: “And Israel said, `I am convinced!’” V.28. When his son had died, so he thought, Israel died, as well. Now the anguish of those years since Joseph’s disappearance and its purpose is to be made clear. God’s objective is accomplished, and it is merciful.

How many of us are discouraged and waiting for our wagon-load of graces? One of the greatest lessons in the story of Joseph out of a multitude of illustrations is his perseverance in his own sorrows, and his graciousness to others in the midst of his own cart-load of cares. If we are troubled, it might help us to send another a cart–a card, a word of love, a hand that lifts–for their cares.

Yet another joy here is knowing that God does not leave us in our burning desert alone without provision and protection. We would starve to death if it were not for God’s graces: His wagon-loads of promises to transport us beyond our meager selves to His land of the best. Faith in the probability gives us the ability to go on. Sense sees the reality of the vehicle of faith, and the faith propels us forward to grasp the cart-load of mercies that our Father so willingly tenders to us.

Ah! we thank You, Father, with full hearts!

What is passion? Recently after a presentation, I was once again thanked for my passion. The compliment was genuinely given, as was my returned thank you. However, as the day progressed, my thoughts kept returning to what really is passion? For the next several days as I attempted to ponder this question, other questions surfaced. What does it mean when one has passion? What separates people with passion and those without passion? Is passion always positive? Could passion be negative? Is there a relationship between passion and purpose? How does it fit me?

Sometimes the best place to begin to define a word is with Webster. Webster’s dictionary states that passion is an emotional response.

Being an intellectual conceptualizer or more simply stated a heurist, I wrote down 3 words - passion, performance and purpose.

Consider the following: Imagine someone standing with out stretched arms and open hands with one hand holding the word passion and the other holding the word purpose.

What I would like you to consider is that passion is the present where others as well as ourselves see our emotions. Purpose is the future, our true north, where we constantly strive towards to reach our vision. And the performance is the individual with the outstretched hands. Performance is the collection of all past experiences and current actions where we continually apply knowledge as we hold our passion and purpose.

Passion exists with our purpose and performance as a partner to help achieve the present and the future that we desire for our families our friends our communities and ourselves.
